Ahead of the royal christening of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby son, Archie, Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, leader of the LA-based rock band EELS, has shared a message of forgiveness for the royal couple.
In an act of transatlantic generosity, E has released a video rendition of ‘Archie Goodnight’. Originally composed as a lullaby to his own son Archie two years ago, and featured on the latest EELS album THE DECONSTRUCTION, the gift arrives amidst UK headlines rife with speculation as to who Harry and Meghan have chosen as godparents. “No hard feelings for stealing my son’s name,” says E. “We can both use it.”
Following a BRIT Award win for Best International Breakthrough in 1998, E’s relationship with the UK has remained eventful. Once heavily-bearded and mistakenly suspected by London police to be a terrorist (while taking a break from press interviews in Hyde Park), E was later awarded the Freedom of the City in 2014 at a ceremony in Guildhall, a high honour previously bestowed upon the likes of Winston Churchill, Princess Diana and Nelson Mandela.
